自从Raven Software开始制作动作游戏以来，就一直坚持使用id Software的游戏引擎技术，并且加以改良创新，形成自己的独特风格。此次也不例外，《命运战士2：双重螺旋》将使用《雷神之锤3：团队竞技场》（Quake III: Team Arena）的游戏引擎技术，并且将Raven Software自己开发的ROAM地形产生系统也融入其中，能够很好地处理大多数野外地形。这一点已经在先前的《命运战士》中被成功地证明。据说当玩家在通过DEVS系统产生出来的巨大战场地图上进行任务的时候，ROAM系统能够细致地描绘出每棵草颤动的边缘，纷飞的雨雪，以及可以折断的树木。此外，游戏还将使用ICARUS脚本语言技术。这项技术曾经在去年的Raven Software大作“星际迷航记”系列游戏之一《远行者：精英部队》（Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force）中被成功地应用

情景：在上代中企图借助魔界之力，在人间复活的天草四郎时贞，终于被一名叫做霸王丸的剑击倒了，但弄似乎恢复了平静。但没过多久，大批妖怪突然出现在人间。霸王丸。狂死郎等人先后遭魔物袭击。
目前已被打败的地震和不知火幻庵也一起出现，难道一场新的灾难又要再一阵临人间吗。世界上的武士们到为追查魔物来源：或为执行密命再度掀起风暴！又有四位强者投入战团中。其中青来自南美洲的小女孩、替兄长塔姆塔姆参战的查姆查姆，全欧最强军队红狮子圣骑士团的团长莱因哈特。还有霸王丸过去的师兄，因走上邪路被逐出师门的牙神幻十郎以及霸王丸的师父花讽院和仲，而且担任裁判的“退魔师”黑子也会乱入于舞台上……
这款游戏的打斗制作深得武器格斗的精髓，因而倍受格斗迷的青睐，街机版已基本上取代了街霸Ⅱ的统治地位。真侍魂的第一大特点是人物的招式设计得非常严密，不象普通格斗游戏那样华而不实。更重要的是这一点不仅体现在衅象上。在操作上出招的破绽很容易导致惨败，这是因为游戏中设定的防护十分强，狂冲猛打不一定能伤害对手，反而会让对手窥到破绽，给你致命的一剑。 在普通攻防之外，真侍魂的必杀技亦是相当厉害的。纯日本人的设计使得十二名斗士中有绝对正宗的武士、浪人、忍者和大白脸歌舞伎。这些人的必杀技分为奥义，秘法、忍术是不重侧重点在的左道妖术。值得一提的是真侍魂加入了空招的设计，一些比较厉害的奥义、秘法都有对应的伪奥义、秘伪招式。在街霸Ⅱ中，如果肯双掌合于身体一侧，那就一定会发波，于是你就可以提前行动，破了他的必杀技(妇强跳起)。然而在真侍魂中，当你见到一个发波动作而跳起后却常常发现那只是一个空招，对手早已换招向你劈来这种真真假假虚虚实实的打法很能体现玩家的大智大勇。
另外，斗士在挨打过多的情况下还会发怒，此时他的身体会因热血沸腾而变红，战斗力有较大提升，并可以施展可怕的武器破坏必杀技。如被此招打中不仅会受很大伤害，手中的兵刀也会坏掉，空手入白刃可不是玩的! 游戏中还隐藏说明书没有提到的超级必杀技，能悟出此类绝技者收拾高手应该是没问题的。你不用担心为了学会它们要在街机上花多少钱，因为——PC版现在已经有地方在卖了.

目前这款游戏正由EA的加拿大制作室开发，玩家可以从游戏中的51个球队中选择其一。游戏模式包括友谊赛、资格赛和欧洲2004锦标赛三种。游戏中增加了一个动态士气系统，之前队伍和个人的表现将会影响到整个球队的士气，并间接影响到球员的表现。
